Just when you thought it was safe to go out at night in Chautauqua County, you were wrong. Well you’ll have to be careful you don’t run into a large furry creature.
The “Slash Squatch” movie crew has arrived in Mayville and filming has started. A weapon-wielding Sasquatch ravages a small town in the storyline.
That town is similar to Mayville, which was one of the reasons they chose this area for filming. The movie director and screenwriter Aaron Bratcher is based in Portland, Ore. In choosing this area to film, one of considerations was his partner Matt Smith had a number of properties they could use for site filming.
Smith, who is from Western New York, has provided a building in Ashville which is being built out as a jail and another building in Randolph that will be a hardware store. They have started construction on the Mayville site that will look like a ski lodge when construction is finished. Make no mistake about it, this is a horror film — the ultimate Bigfoot movie. According to the web site, the movie will be a heart-pounding ride with Slash Squatch being a thrilling creature that is a throwback to classics like “Tremors” or the 1988 remake of “The Blob.”
