Police Nab NY Man Who Allegedly Came To Warren To Meet Minor For Sex
A New York State man has been charged in Warren County for attempting to have sexual contact with what he believed to be a 14-year-old female.
Joshua A. Norwalk, 31, of Otego, N.Y., was charged by Warren city police on Saturday.
Police were contacted by the Erie Predator Catchers, a vigilante predator watch group, and were informed that Norwalk had been in contact with a “female who he believed to be… 14 years of age.”
The group told police that Norwalk was driving from New York state to Warren “to meet the female with the intent to have sexual intercourse with her.”
Police then met with Warren County Detectives and the Erie Predator Catchers where it was reportedly learned that Norwalk had “initiated contact via Facebook” with the female and that he had “reserved a hotel room in the City of Warren” for their meeting.
Police monitored the area and observed Norwalk arrive at the Quality Inn on the west end, the complaint and affidavit state.
He was taken into custody and the affidavit alleges that he was in possession of a THC pen.
“While in custody,” the affidavit alleges, Nowalk “made several spontaneous utterances how he has now ruined his own life and made a bad decision.”
Police say he was interviewed and told investigators that he added the female on Facebook and they began communicating.
“As the two of them began to talk, the female informed him that she was 14 years of age,” the affidavit states. Nowalk “then blocked her” but “advised that he felt bad for blocking the female. Therefore, he unblocked her and continued to have a conversation with her. Upon doing so, the two of them formed a bond, and he had sent nude photographs to her.”
He also allegedly stated during the interview that “he and the female agreed to meet in person. As a result, he reserved a hotel room and brought Viagra-type pills.”
Online court records show that Nowalk has been charged with criminal attempt – unlawful contact with a minor – sexual offenses, unlawful contact with a minor – obscene and other sexual materials and performances, criminal use of a communications facility, dissemination of explicit sexual material to a minor and possession of a controlled substance.
He was arraigned on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and is being held in the county jail on $150,000 bail.
