Multiple Projects Ongoing At Falconer Central School

FALCONER — Falconer Central School is in the process of working on multiple capital projects, along with a separate project of having Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union open a branch for the school.

The credit union has three other school-based branches at Frewsburg, Jamestown, and Southwestern schools, with Falconer set to be the fourth.

“Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union opened a district branch at the end of last school year,” Falconer Superintendent Stephen Penhollow said. “They will provide the school financial instruction, financial management, CHIPS funding and training for students and staff.”

Penhollow added that the branch is only open to the school, and follows the school hours and calendar. According to the school’s website, any student in 10th grade or above is eligible to open a checking account and have access to a debit card. The branch will also offer financial education, and the opportunity for any junior or senior student to become an intern.

Falconer Central School has a “substantial amount of stuff” going on with capital projects, including wrapping up a project from 2016.

“We are hopefully wrapping up phase four of our 2016 project on our HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) equipment and air quality system,” Penhollow said. “Our air quality system is at the end of its life. We are working diligently to get the affected rooms open by the start of the school year.”

Another project that is just beginning is working to replace the roofs on the Fenner and Temple Elementary schools. The project is in phase one, but Penhollow said the hope is to have a significant amount of the roofs replaced by early September.

“He will do early morning, afternoon and maybe evening shifts to try and beat the weather,” Penhollow said. “We are also in phase two of the project to refurbish our student support system offices, the nurses suite, auditorium, bus suite, bathroom, and the boys and girls locker rooms. We are updating our safety measures such as locks and control mechanisms. There’s a lot in the works.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
