FCS Discusses Agreements, Annexation Update
FALCONER — During the month of August, discussions at Falconer Central School have involved agreements with two other school districts and an update on the agreement that ended annexation talks of the Dow Street Substation.
Falconer shares multiple sports teams with Cassadaga Valley and Bemus Point/Maple Grove schools. A recent agreement allows for both of those school districts to have their school safety advisors at games with their sidearms.
“Because we share multiple sports with these two districts we ask the schools to send representatives to help supervise crowds at the games,” Falconer Superintendent Stephen Penhollow said. “These agreements give the school safety advisors at Maple Grove and Cassadaga Valley the ability to come to our school for the games, carrying their sidearms.”
Another agreement that the school has been involved in is the annexation agreement between the city of Jamestown, the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities, town of Ellicott, village of Falconer and the school district, regarding the Dow Street substation property in the village of Falconer.
“This annexation has been in the works for over six years and we have finally reached a resolution,” Penhollow said. “The latest update for that was there will be a decrease in the tax on the property for the Dow Street substation.”
Penhollow said the assessed value for the property will decrease by 20%. It is planned that this will continue for the next 10 years.
“Hopefully we can continue to move forward with the resolution,” Penhollow said. “All parties agree that it is in everyone’s best interest to settle.”
Penhollow added that a judge from the appellate courts has been assisting with the annexation agreement.
