SHERMAN — A retired CIA Agent who currently resides in Clymer is set to give a presentation on a man who gave information to the Soviet Union, at Sherman’s Olive Lodge at the beginning of August.

Mike Ganske will give the presentation, titled “Circle of Treason” on August 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lodge, 197 Park Street. Ganske will discuss Aldrich Hazen Ames, including examining the motivations for his betrayal, discussing the counterintelligence investigation, advising of the outcome, and providing an update on his status.

Master of Olive Lodge, Ronald Graham, said that he has seen Ganske present a few times on a variety of topics and thought it would be something people at the Lodge would enjoy. He added that Ganske speaks on around ten or so topics in different places.

“He’s a retired CIA agent that lives in Clymer now, but he knew the guy personally that he is going to be doing a presentation on,” Graham said. “He was a CIA agent also and they worked together but he was giving information to Russia while Mike was working with him. It’s an interesting presentation.”

Graham said he guessed that Ganske will most likely talk about working with Aldrich Hazen Ames and knowing him, along with what he was caught doing and why, how he was caught and all of the other details involved. He added that he believed Ames was caught by tapping his phone and that he was doing it for money. Ames is currently still alive but is in jail.

Ganske has presented at the Lodge a few times before, but this will be the first time on this topic. Another event organizer, Jared Calhoun, said Ganske’s programs are usually very interesting.

“He does answer questions from people and it is very insightful into the history of our country,” Calhoun said. “He did a program once on intelligence in the Revolutionary War and how that played a role. People should be interested in coming if they want to learn more about stuff like this.”

Graham said the presentation is open to the public and anyone is welcome to come.

“If you are interested in the CIA and history you should come,” Graham said. “He is very intelligent and it’s very interesting stuff.”
