JPS Hires Assistant Principals At Fletcher, Persell

Jamestown Public Schools will welcome two new assistant principals to serve students and families at M.J. Fletcher Elementary School and Persell Middle School.

The Jamestown Public Schools Board of Education approved the appointments of Megan Brown on July 9 and Michelle Buccola on July 30, respectively.

The appointments come following the respective promotions of Michelle Trussalo as principal of Ring Elementary School and Katherine Zwald as principal of Jefferson Middle School.

“We are excited to welcome Mrs. Brown and Ms. Buccola to the Jamestown Public Schools family,” said Tina Sandstrom, Jamestown Public Schools assistant superintendent for instruction and school improvement. “Both have demonstrated a genuine commitment to students over the course of their careers and we look forward to the impact that they will have at Fletcher and Persell, respectively.”

Brown will join Jamestown Public Schools as the new assistant principal at M.J. Fletcher Elementary School. Brown comes to Fletcher after serving the 2023-24 school year as assistant principal for fifth through 12th grades at Cattaraugus/Little Valley Central School District, where she has served the entirety of her career. Prior to being a building leader, she served as educational support coordinator for two years and a special education teacher for seven years. She received her bachelor’s from Houghton University, her master’s from Walden University, and her administrative certificates from the University of Rochester.

“My new role as assistant principal at Fletcher Elementary means an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students, educators, and families,” Brown said. “I see it as a chance to foster a supportive learning environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, and to contribute positively to the school’s growth and success. I am thrilled to join Fletcher Elementary as the new assistant principal and eagerly look forward to meeting the students and their families.”

Buccola will join Jamestown Public Schools as the new assistant principal at Persell Middle School. Buccola comes to Persell from Paul B. D. Temple Elementary School in Falconer, where she has served as an AIS Reading and Math teacher since 2012, where she has administered the learning loss tutoring program among other responsibilities. Prior to joining Falconer, she previously worked in the Jamestown Public Schools District as a district behavior modified instructor. She holds an associate’s degree from Jamestown Community College, a bachelor’s degree from the State University at Fredonia, a master’s degree from Edinboro University, and her administrative certificates from SUNY Fredonia.

“I started my education career at Jamestown Public Schools 12 years ago, and I am excited to be back,” Buccola said. “I look forward to building relationships with the students, staff, and family members of Persell Middle School. I went into educational leadership to ensure all students achieve success and become productive members of society. As an assistant principal, I will be collaborating with the school community to provide all students with the necessary support to reach their full potential. I’ve always admired Jamestown Public Schools’ innovative approaches to education and am thankful for the opportunity to start the next chapter of my career here.”
