First-Year Teachers Discuss First Year At Panama

PANAMA — Recently, Panama Central School has been working on communication, both from first-year teachers and between the Board of Education and district superintendent.

Superintendent Aaron Wolfe said the board hears these types of presentations at the end of every school year. Board members recently invited all teachers who had just wrapped up their first year teaching to come in and present to the board.

“This is something we do every year and it gives the board an opportunity to get a sense of how the first year has gone for these teachers,” Wolfe said. “It lets us reflect on the year and what went well and gives a glimpse into the classroom for the board.”

The board has also been having an ongoing conversation about how they would like to communicate with Wolfe. Wolfe said everyone has their own ways they prefer to be contacted.

“This has been an ongoing conversation about how the board prefers to be communicated with,” Wolfe said. “Everyone has standard ways of communicating with each other. We’ve been discussing what the board wants to hear, and maybe that they don’t necessarily need to hear everything that goes on.”

Wolfe said the conversation has been focused on what works and does not work, and how board members prefer to communicate such as through text, email or a phone call.
