PANAMA — The village of Panama is continuing the work on both the state championship signs and new banners that they plan to use to replace the current ones in the village.
For the championship signs, board member Todd Eddy said he took the designs discussed at last month’s meeting to Chautauqua Signs, who is going to give the board a quote for how much it will cost.
“He kind of liked to put like a ribbon, ‘state champions’, in a bow type thing, an arch type thing and have the plaque underneath, and he thought it was a good idea to put it right under the original sign,” Eddy said. “Then we just leave spaces in there in the spots so if we ever want to fill them in we can take them to him and he’ll fill them in.”
Board Member Kim Davis expressed that she liked the idea of a state champion arch without having to worry about putting state champions on each plaque. The board also discussed that mowing around the village signs has been done recently. Davis asked why the grass looked dead where it was mowed around the sign on North Street, and it was thought to be maybe because it was mowed before the dry and hot weather spell. Davis said the man who is now mowing for them, Nathan Short, also asked how often he should do it.
“I said as needed, like that’s fair to say because I don’t want to say weekly because it’s $20 a sign, so there’s $100 every time he does it, which is whatever but I just don’t think it needs it that often” Davis said. “I did give him the AOK to say when you notice it encroaching on the sign again to go ahead and do it.”
Davis added that she told them to send an invoice whenever he does it.
As far as the banners go, the board has picked a few different designs to have Triple E in Sherman make for them. The board looked over screen prints, deciding on two designs. Davis said picking two similar designs is better than multiple, and simple colors are better as well.
“I feel like the simple color design, I mean if you look at the Panama Panthers ones, they’ve held up great, I don’t know how but they have,” Davis said. “But I think it’s because they are two toned, so it’s literally just a screen print on top of that color banner so you’re not messing with all of the digital screen prints where they started to fade.”
The board discussed avoiding Happy Holidays signs to be up all winter and to pick other more winter designs and colors. They also discussed similar colors and designs for spring, saying simple things like Welcome and Panama. The board officially picked the designs and decided to go with Triple E to make them for the village.
