North Harmony Discusses Temporary Battery Storage Moratorium
NORTH HARMONY — The town of North Harmony has been working on a Temporary Battery Storage Moratorium on commercial solar and energy storage systems in the town.
During the May meeting a public hearing was held, with no public in attendance and a short conversation followed regarding more ongoing discussion to be held with the planning board.
When talking with the Post-Journal, Town Clerk, Stephanie Gibbs, said establishing this moratorium is to help with the upkeep of solar farms in the North Harmony area.
“Basically we added a section that talks about the upkeep of solar projects and the properties they are on,” Gibbs said. “So, people won’t leave their garbage around the property for example and will keep it clean.”
The moratorium is set for six months, but Gibbs said it could be extended.
“It’s a six month moratorium but the board can extend it if it is not completed,” Gibbs said. “There is more discussion about it set for the town planning board meeting.”
The next planning board meeting for the town of North Harmony is set for July 9.
