Village Of Panama Continues Work On Replacing Banners, Hanging Championship Signs

PANAMA — Work continues for the village of Panama to find replacements for the banners that hang on flagpoles in the village, along with ideas for having state championship signs underneath the welcome signs outside the village.

For the banners, the board is still looking for a canvas option and working on designs they might be interested in.

“So I went to the place in Fredonia that was recommended and she didn’t know what I was talking about either,” Village Trustee Kim Davis said. “She doesn’t have anything canvas. She said ‘if you bring it in and show me I can tell you if we can do it’. I just find it odd that that’s not very common.”

Davis said the Fredonia shop did have a new plastic mesh type banner that would also be weather resistant. It allows for the wind to go through and not get beat up by winter, but the design seems to be more for one sided signs and more like decals, Davis said. The banners in Fredonia have lasted for over a year and look great, but Davis added that the sun does not hit them as well as the Panama banners.

“I feel like it’s apples to apples and honestly if we can keep it more local with Triple E I’d rather keep it local,” Davis said.

Christmas banners are still good, so the board is focused on getting banners for spring first. Sign wise, the board is also continuing to work on making signs that say Panama is home of state champions to hang underneath the current village signs.

The signs would include all sports state champions from Panama, along with CSP Wolfpack football and track championships.

“It would have to go in that little four foot space, which shouldn’t be a problem,” Mayor William Schneider said.

The signs would be one sided to fit in with the current signs, and would be a sign under the current ones with the same color scheme. There would be room left underneath as well to be able to add more to it as needed. The board will also be looking for someone to mow around the signs.

The board still needs to confirm the official dates and teams from Panama that have won state championships. Schneider said he will get those shortly.

Starting at $3.50/week.
