CRYB To Present Annual Spring Gala Friday

CRYB advanced dancers rehearsing Red Violin: Arehlyn Pattison, Gracie Watkins, Isabella Wilder and Annie Johnson.

The Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet, under the artistic direction of Monika Alch, will present its annual Spring Gala Performance at 8 p.m. Friday at the Chautauqua Institution Amphitheater.

The Spring Gala is the culmination of CRYB students’ work over the past year and will feature a suite based on music from Bizet’s Carmen, variations from the ballet Paquita and CRYB’s Gypsy Suite (Red Violin).

CRYB has been performing the Spring Gala at the Amphitheater since 2018; this will be its sixth production on the institution’s stage.

“Not only is it an inspiring experience for our dancers but it is also a wonderful community partnership between the institution and CRYB offering local audiences year-round exposure to quality dance opportunities,” said Monika Alch, CRYB artistic director.

The performance will consist of two acts. The first will feature variations from Paquita danced by CRYB Advanced students and Guest Artist Logan Martin from the Oakland Ballet Company; Gypsy Suite choreographed by CRYB alumna Brittany Bush to music from the Red Violin; and a whimsical “pillow fight” modern piece choreographed by Rudi Andalora and danced by Intermediate modern class.

Act 2 will feature all the students of CRYB in “Carmen Suite” choreographed by CRYB Ballet faculty Samantha Barczak-Young and Sandra Mangusing to the exciting music from Bizet’s Carmen.

Tickets are $14 for youth and $20 for adults and are available through Chautauqua Institution. Tickets can be purchased online at tickets.chq.org or by calling 716-357-6250. Tickets are also available for purchase in-person at the Main Gate at Chautauqua Institution or at the Amphitheater Kiosk the evening of the show.

Starting at $2.99/week.
