Mayor Kim Ecklund was scheduled to throw out the first pitch to open the 2024 Jamestown Tarp Skunks season.
She had a little help from a friend.
Ecklund quickly tapped two fingers to her right arm, like any manager relieving their pitcher, to summon Isahiah Torres, a Jefferson Middle School fifth-grader, who promptly fired a strike to open the season.
