The Silver Creek Central School District was mourning the death of a student that was announced Tuesday.

Seventh-grader Mya Smith has passed away, Superintendent Katie Ralston announced in a Facebook post.

“Anytime we face the death of a young member of our community, it impacts our entire school district. Counselors are available in our library throughout the day today for students in need of support,” Ralston wrote.

“If you have any concerns regarding your child, please call the guidance office at 716-934-2603 ext. 1123,” she added.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Mya and her family.”
