City Receives Grant For Police Technology Upgrades

The state Division of Criminal Justice Services has awarded the city of Jamestown a Law Enforcement Technology (LETECH) Grant totaling $285,400.

The grant will significantly enhance the technological capacities of the Jamestown Police Department, enabling them to better prevent, investigate, and solve crimes, as well as conduct search and rescue operations and investigations. Specifically, the city will purchase 44 surveillance cameras, three plate readers, three unmanned aerial vehicles, software updates and installations for 51 computers, and three printers for patrol cars.

“This grant represents a major step forward for our police department,” said Mayor Kimberly Ecklund. “With this additional technology, we will be more equipped to protect our community, solve crimes more efficiently, and enhance our overall public safety”.

The ability to acquire additional surveillance cameras and license plate readers will provide real-time data and evidence, helping to expedite investigations and improve response times. The UAVs will offer support for search and rescue missions, large event monitoring, and crime scene assessments. Additionally, the software updates and installations will enhance the efficiency and capability of the Jamestown Police Department’s existing computer systems.

“We are grateful to the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services for their continued support,” Ecklund said. “This investment in our police department underscores our commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all Jamestown residents.”

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services provides resources and support to enhance public safety, reduce crime, and improve the quality and effectiveness of criminal justice services across the state. For more information, visit www.criminaljustice.ny.gov.
