Numerous structures were impacted late Monday after a garage fire on East Main Street in the village of Fredonia.

At approximately 10:25 p.m., the Fredonia Fire Department, East Dunkirk Fire and Dunkirk Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 417 E. Main St. Upon extinguishing the fire, the village department requested the assistance of the Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team to conduct an origin and cause investigation.

Through interviews and a hands-on investigation, the fire was determined to be incendiary in nature. It is alleged by a resident of the home they carelessly discarded smoking material, resulting in the garage catching fire and spreading to the residence.

As a result of the garage fire, two neighboring residences sustained damage to the exterior walls. Nobody was injured as a result of the fire. The fire remains under investigation.

Chautauqua County Emergency Management Services also responded.
