Alliance Advisory Group, a general agency of the Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, recently competed with their associate offices in Buffalo and Rochester to raise awareness of the need to support local food pantries.

The local group comprised of 10 field representatives and two staff members collected a total of 221 pieces, which were donated to the Frewsburg Food Pantry. The three offices collected 676 pieces in total which supported additional efforts in Buffalo and Syracuse.

Wendy Nelson, coordinator of the Frewsburg Community Food Pantry, explained that the food pantry began in the early 1980s and is supported through community donations, grants and Feed More WNY. Originally, the pantry was in the site of The Relief Zone, but is now housed in the fellowship hall of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church on 6 Institute St., Frewsburg. The pantry is served by Nelson and nine additional committed volunteers. Each month an average of 25 to 30 families are served.
