Southwestern Elementary School welcomed the community to their 17th annual Third Grade Multicultural Fair on Friday.
The event held Friday morning began with some of the kids singing songs titled “Hello To All The Children Of The World” and “There’s Love For Me And You”. After the singing those in attendance were welcome to walk around the room and see all of the different countries that the school’s third graders spent a lot of time researching and doing projects on.
Countries included in the multicultural fair consisted of; Ireland, Chile, Sweden, Thailand, Brazil, Japan, Kenya, Spain, Mexico, Greece, India, South Africa, Argentina, China, France, and Italy. Besides sharing their information, the students also handed out food samples from their different countries.
At the South Africa table, Presley Durnell said that the teachers chose the countries and that she really liked learning about different aspects of South Africa.
“I really liked getting to know all of the different animals,” Durnell said.

Also at the South Africa table, Ella Bernard agreed with Durnell, saying that the research aspect was her favorite part of both the project and being at the fair.
“I like getting to learn about the different countries,” Bernard said.
Ellie Lodestro was a part of the China table and said that her favorite part was learning about the forbidden city. She added that her favorite part of being involved in the multicultural fair was getting to see all of the people who came and tell them about China.
Avery Kier was part of the group who learned about Japan. For her, the best part was the food and also learning about Mount Fuji, which she called “a cool symbol of Japan”. She added that she liked seeing everyone come out to the fair,
“My favorite part is that everyone comes here to gather around and listen to every country,” Kier said.

Delanne Stewart, Alexa Clark, and Scarlett DuBois were all a part of the India table. They all agreed that the best parts were learning about the countries, what they do there, and making the displays and projects.
“It’s nice to see our families come and look at the projects today,” DuBois said. “It’s also fun to dress up.”
Southwestern Elementary Principal Kaitlin Ring thanked the third grade classes for their hard work and everyone who came out to the event.
“We are very proud of these kids,” Ring said. “I want to thank the third grade team for all of the work that they put into this, because it is a lot of work. I also want to thank the families for taking time out of their busy days to come out and celebrate that hard work.”
