MAYVILLE – County lawmakers have approved a number of agreements with the Sheriff’s Office.

During the county legislature meeting, officials approved a new agreement with Chautauqua Lake Central School for police presence. In the agreement, an officer will make daily one-hour visits when class is in session. The school will pay $48.80 an hour, up to $10,000 for the year. If an officer is unable to visit a specific day, the school will not be charged. This is a new agreement. No other school district has this in the county.

The legislature approved enhanced police services at Chautauqua Lake Central School for special events. The school will pay $47.46 an hour and a holiday rate hourly rate of at least $59.92. This would include events like school dances, parades or select sporting events. This agreement is a renewal.

The legislature approved the Sheriff’s Office to provide deputies for court security, with an hourly rate of $35.67. The municipalities and maximum yearly rates are as follows: North Harmony – $8,000; Kiantone – $7,000; Mina – $5,000; Stockton – $6,000; Ellery – $3,000; Harmony – $4,000; Poland – $7,000; Sheridan – $1,500; and Charlotte – $2,500.

The legislature approved enhanced police services for Ripley for $35,000 annually and enhanced police services for Charlotte for $9,000. The agreement allows those municipalities to have extra patrols in their towns at various times during the year.

The legislature also agreed for the Sheriff’s Office to continue renting space from Windstream at 201-209 E. Fourth St., Jamestown. The new lease will run from Jan. 1, 2024 to Dec. 31, 2029 and will be for $44,400 over the life of the contract. The space is used as a backup for the county’s 911 call center.

In other business:

— The legislature transferred $500,000 from its undesignated fund balance to go to the Department of Mental Hygiene. The money will be used to pay the full cost of care, maintenance and services and/or examinations of patients placed in state Office of Mental Health facilities, pursuant to orders of criminal courts and county Family Court.

— The legislature agreed to use $448,115 of the North County Industrial Water District’s fund balance to go to repair its water storage tank. Previously the legislature agreed to spend $830,000 of American Rescue Plan Act funds to go toward the repairs. Legislature Chairman Pierre Chagnon said during a committee meeting that the bids came in higher than the engineer’s original estimate.

— The legislature approved $5,000 to be used for the America’s Grape Country Craft Beverage Festival that took place in August. The money is coming from the county’s 3% occupancy tax reserve account.
