SUNY Jamestown Community College is set to host its Go Global fair starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the Scharmann Theatre on the Jamestown campus.

Kickstarting the festival will be a performance from the Sukanya Burman Dance troop titled, “The Bayadere, The Past, Present, and Future.”

According to the dance troop’s website, the group is a U.S.-based contemporary dance company that mobilizes the expressive techniques of Indian diasporic dances and modern dance to explore compelling ideas and create shared visual experiences. With deep roots in Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Modern dance vocabularies, the company aims to explore different ways of movement in the human body to tell stories relevant to our world today.

Throughout the day, a plethora of music, food, art, culture and languages will be presented by international students who attend or are affiliated with JCC. The event is an opportunity for international students to showcase the culture of their homelands and for those attending to learn about life in those countries. Additionally, the free event has been running for several years now and has become a mainstay and rather popular with the student body and faculty members.

“I’ve heard all about this event, even though I’ve never actually attended it,” said Mike Rohraband, a freshman student at JCC. “I’m told the food is amazing, and the chance to be immersed in a foreign culture is not only educational, but fun too.”

At 10:20 a.m. in the Sheldon Center on campus, international students will host a panel discussion on cultural expression, followed by rotating breakout sessions through noon in the Weeks Reception Hall in the Sheldon Center.

Also, in the Student Union building presentations from international students from Nigeria, New Zealand, South Africa, Turkmenistan, India, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Spain, Italy and Japan will be presented on various culturally relevant information starting at noon.
