Grant To Help Build Amphitheater In Westfield
WESTFIELD – The village of Westfield received $450,040 to establish an outdoor terraced amphitheater and park space at the old Portage Inn site at 18-28 North Portage Street. The revitalized open space will enhance the downtown and deliver local programming to a variety of groups.
It is one of several regional projects receiving a share of more than $23 million through part of Round XIII of the Regional Economic Development Council Initiative.
“An investment in smart growth and sustainable community development is an investment that will pay dividends for generations to come,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said. “These programs are essential elements in the State’s bold, innovative efforts to create a more prosperous, equitable and sustainable future for New Yorkers of all backgrounds, incomes and abilities.”
The National Comedy Center will receive $490,000 in additional working capital from New York state to market, build awareness and increase attendance.
The Chautauqua Region Economic Development Corporation will receive $201,402 for activities related to pre-development of the Chadakoin River Central/Eastern BOA site. The Chautauqua Region EDC, city of Jamestown and county IDA intend to complete predevelopment activities within the Chadakoin River Central/Eastern Brownfield Opportunity Area. Among other objectives, the project will create a market analysis and site inventories and analyses for five priority sites, with the specific aim of understanding ideal future uses at those sites.
Gowanda also received Brownfield Opportunity Area money. Its $180,000 grant will be used for a market study, technical marketing materials for strategic sites as identified in the Gowanda Brownfield Opportunity Area Plan and undertake the development of a master plan to advance BOA revitalization and redevelopment efforts. The primary community revitalization objective to be achieved is to foster redevelopment of long-standing vacant, highly visible and underutilized properties.
Bemus Point received $58,500 for a zoning code update so the village can update its 1984 zoning code. Project activities include a community engagement effort, a review of the existing zoning code, and the development of a modern zoning code which will allow the Village to be more responsive to contemporary development challenges.
Five & 20 Spirits has received a $50,000 microgrant to acquire new rinsing and filling equipment to increase production and efficiency.
One of the area’s newest brewers, Ghostfish Brewing, received $50,000 to purchase new equipment to expand their capacity to produce more gluten-free products and develop an in-house canning line.
The village of Fredonia received $230,000 in New York Main Street funding to support the renovation of commercial and residential units in the village’s downtown.
Members of the Chautauqua Cherry Creek Sno-Goers Inc. were granted $250,000 to purchase a trail groomer. The club plans to purchase new environmentally friendly trail grooming equipment.
