Fire Department Installs Rapid Access System On Trucks

The Jamestown Fire Department has a new tool to keep city residents safe.

The department has installed a Knox Emergency Key Box rapid access system on several of its trucks, and several locations have started to mount the entry system as well.

The Knox Rapid Entry System offers a safe and secure way for firefighters to gain immediate access into private residences, rental properties and businesses without having to force entry, break down doors or smash windows.

The main component to the system is a master key, which opens other lockboxes mounted around a city, to structural buildings, and rental properties of commercial buildings. Inside the individual boxes are a key to allow immediate entry to a property. A master key is stored on fire trucks and can only be used in an emergency.

“This is a great tool for the department to use,” said Matt Coon, deputy fire chief.

For more information on obtaining a lock box, or to participate with the Jamestown Fire Department’s lock box program, contact JFD at 716-483-7598.
