Janet Wahlberg, president of the Board of Trustees for the Fenton History Center gives a presentation to various governmental officials and key-stakeholders about the Fenton’s new exhibits, potential corporate partnerships and upcoming community events Wednesday.

The Fenton History Center has added some items to its display that belonged to the center’s namesake – late Gov. Reuben Eaton Fenton.

During the nearly 20-minute briefing during a recent gathering of stakeholders and potential donors, Janet Wahlberg, president of the center’s board, touched on a variety of items like the Fenton’s official mission statement and new items which were being donated to the center. The items were some of the personal properties of the late Gov. Reuben Eaton Fenton.

“We don’t have a lot of Gov. Fenton’s personal items here,” Wahlberg said. “The McClurg Museum has some of these artifacts and believe they actually belong on display here.”

The McClurg Mansion, a 14-room, federal-style mansion built in 1818, is home to the Chautauqua County Historical Society.

The recent gathering included various government officials and other stakeholders who, Wahlberg said, the center wanted to reach out to for possible corporate memberships to boost funding for the center.

“We’ve invited various organizations, who may have an interest or are stakeholders with the Fenton,” said Wahlberg. “We’re looking at donors and corporate partners who may be interested in a corporate membership. That way, when we’re asking for donations for various projects and programs, they (potential members) can pick, upfront, which programs and projects they would like to sponsor instead of us asking, all-year-long and for each project.”

The Fenton Museum will be hosting a Community Open House from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Dec. 2 and everyone is invited to attend.
