Belcher Resigns From Brocton Board

BROCTON -- Even though none of the seats on the Brocton Village Board were up for election this year, the Board did not escape turnover, after all.
Brocton Village Trustee Mark Belcher announced his resignation "with a heavy heart" at a recent meeting. Belcher is moving out of the village, and therefore cannot continue to serve on the Village Board, effective Dec. 1.
"My wife and I have spent 33 years here and raised our children in this village. It will always have a special place in my heart," Belcher said.
After Belcher read his letter of resignation aloud, Mayor Craig Miller joked, "Well, I'm not accepting that."
Miller then officially accepted the letter, with regrets. "You've been awesome here," Miller said.
Village Trustee/Deputy Mayor Bryan Woleben added, "Definitely with regrets. Thanks for all your help on everything you did, and for stepping up and taking the position."
Recently, Belcher donated his stipend from serving on the Village Board to cover the cost of refurbishing the Kinney Street basketball courts. Village Trustee Kari Doino also highlighted Belcher's contributions to the Village's Summer Recreation program.
"I truly enjoyed serving my time on the Village Board and giving back to the community," Belcher said.
