YMCA’s ‘Walk With Ease’ Program To Move Inside

Walk with Ease YMCA participants pose for a picture after exercising along Jamestown’s scenic Riverwalk recently.

Winter is coming. So goes the saying from HBO’s critically acclaimed series Game of Thrones.

However, unlike Game of Thrones dreaded “Winter is coming” proclamation, the changing of the seasons really isn’t all that bad when it comes to learning how to safely exercise with disabilities during a Walk with Ease program.

The Jamestown Area YMCA launched its inaugural, evidence-based fitness and educational free program “Walk with Ease.”

Participants learn how to safely exercise within the confines of any hindering ailment, disability or injury by walking and talking along the city’s scenic Riverwalk. However, as the cold weather starts to set in, YMCA officials are moving this program indoors.

“Walk with Ease will be at the ice arena,” said Kacey Shelters, the Y’s health and wellness director. “The program is completely free, and will run for six-weeks, meeting at the Northwest Arena on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays starting at 10:30 a.m. The program goals include learning about the relationship between arthritis, exercise, & pain and how to exercise safely & comfortably.”

The program is free, but a suggested donation of $20 is appreciated and will include a guidebook. The next session starts Oct. 30 and will run until Dec. 8.

For more information about this program contact the Jamestown Area YMCA at 716-664-2802 or visit them on the web at www.jamestownymca.org .
