Police: City Man Displayed Knife, Threatened Students In Front Of School
A 20-year-old Jamestown man is facing a host of charges after he allegedly displayed a knife and threatened several students in front of a school this week.
Devon E. A. Diers was taken into custody following the incident, which occurred in front of Jefferson Middle School on Martin Road.
Officers with the Jamestown Police Department were called to the school around 8:15 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a “person with a weapon.”
In a news release, Jamestown police said the male, later identified as Diers, allegedly “displayed a knife and made threats towards multiple students who were outside of the school.” It’s not clear what may have prompted the encounter.
Diers was located a short time later with assistance of the school’s safety officer. The city man was reportedly found with a knife when he was taken into custody.
He was held for arraignment in Jamestown City Court of charges on fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, five counts of endangering the welfare of a child and five counts of second-degree menacing.
Following the incident, Jamestown Public Schools released the following statement: “Please talk with your children about the importance of not talking to strangers, or if any stranger approaches them, to report it immediately to a trusted adult.”
