Tim Hortons Coming To Mayville

MAYVILLE - A popular coffee chain restaurant is coming to the village.

During the Mayville Village Board meeting, officials passed a resolution to sell 7 West Chautauqua St. to Mayville Property Management, LLC for $45,000 to construct a Tim Hortons restaurant and drive through on the property.

That is the location of the former Mayville Diner, which was destroyed in an arson fire in December, 2019.

The developer of the Tim Hortons restaurant is David and Gina Kron, who own and operate four Tim Hortons in Northern Chautauqua County - two in Dunkirk, one in Fredonia and one in Cassadaga. They are also in the process of building a Tim Hortons in Westfield, where the former Vine City Restaurant was located.

After the resolution passed, Mayor Rick Syper introduced the Krons who were in the back of the room. The audience burst out in applause.

"We're really excited to be coming to the village of Mayville and hope that this project works out wonderfully," said Gina Kron.

She said they hope to start construction in the spring and be open sometime in the fall of 2024.

Gina noted how they are local owners and very hands-on. "We're in our restaurants every day. We're outside doing lawn work, so you'll see us around. We hope to see you all there," she said.

Trustee Mark Perry said he would like to make sure the building style fits within neighboring business. "You've done a great job where you've developed. I just would like it to not be garish for that neighborhood, with neon lights or things like that," he said.

Gina agreed, saying Westfield officials had similar requests for the building in their village.

Next month the village board will hold a public hearing and then is expected to adjust zoning for part of that parcel, making it all commercial so no variances will be needed for the new restaurant.

After the meeting, David said their focus right now is finishing the Tim Hortons restaurant in Westfield. He said they wanted to start construction in the early spring but was delayed in getting the permits. By the time they got the needed approvals, their construction company was unavailable until later in the summer. "It almost didn't happen," he said.

David said they hope to have Westfield's Tim Hortons open by the end of November or early December.

As long as they can start construction in the spring, The Krons said they would like to be open in Mayville sometime in the mid to late summer.

The village board was able to obtain the property of the former Mayville Diner after the parcel went to the county for the owners not paying taxes. The village spent thousands of dollars removing the debris from the former restaurant and later reseeding and cleaning it up.

When the county agreed to give the village the land, there was an agreement that any profits made would be split between the county and the village.

After the village board meeting, Syper said the sale will cover their costs and he doesn't think there will be any profit to split. He said he was happy that they were able to cover all their clean-up costs with the sale of the property and help bring a new business to the community.

Tim Hortons will be the first fast-food restaurant in the village. The idea of Tim Hortons coming to Mayville was actually brought up last fall during a debate before the November elections.

The Krons credited a number of officials including Syper and state Sen. George Borrello for proposing to them to construct a Tim Hortons in the county seat.
