Outdoor Fun: Library To Host Next Community Day

Library security and safety officer, Shawnette Williamson, assists with passing out healthy lunches to program participants as part of the Community Days at the Library. The lunches Williamson distributes are provided by the Jamestown Area YMCA’s Lunch Program as a service to our community.

The next Community Day at James Prendergast Library will be held today from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A variety of activities are scheduled.

“We start with outdoor story time, followed by outdoor games and activities and we sometimes have special guest visits, along with lunches provided by the Jamestown YMCA,” said Jenn Champ, Prendergast Library special projects and facility manager.

Last week, the day’s special visitor was the St. Bonaventure University’s Quick Center Artmobile. The rolling, moving art center provides an interactive, travelling, educational and special art experience for participants.

“Event attendees made weavings out of fabric strips and patches, which they could customize with their names and drawings,” Champ said.

Community Days at the Library event participants, Joella Liddle, left, and her daughter, Sadie Liddle, 3, of Jamestown enjoy some fun, safe and interactive playtime at the Library.

Also, the Mobile Market was on premises last week and is scheduled to be at all the other Community Days from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Mobile Market provides low-cost, fresh and local fruits, veggies and some baked goods. This rolling truck of healthy goodness excepts Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and participates in the Double-Up Food Buck and Veggie RX programs.

Additionally, rounding out some of the offerings, the Jamestown Area YMCA’s Summer Lunch Program provides children under the age of 18 with a free, healthy lunch at the library from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Upcoming, scheduled guests include: the Audubon Live Birds Program today; the Chautauqua County Humane Society on Aug. 16; and the Jamestown Police Department’s therapy dog, Hope, on Aug. 16.
