Borrello Proposes Removing Price Posting Requirement
The signs posting gas prices on top of gas pumps could be going away.
State Sen. George Borrello, R-Sunset Bay, is proposing to remove a price posting requirement at state gas stations.
Borrello recently introduced S.7619, which could be up for discussion in the state Senate when the new legislative session begins in January. The bill amends state and city of New York requirements that those who sell gas post the price per gallon on the top of gas pumps. Borrello said the requirement is duplicative if gas stations are already posting the price of a gallon of gas on a roadside sign and electronically on the pumps when a driver selects the type of gasoline they want to purchase.
“(New York) is one of only two states that require these signs in addition to both street signage and electronic signage at the pump. With the digital price above the nozzle and street signs, prices are already fully disclosed,” Borrello wrote in his legislative justification.
