Tammy Lachner, Jamestown DAR Chapter Regent, said there will be numerous activities, one such activity being a story time. Lachner also shared that multiple princes and princesses would be in attendance.

“It’s going to be amazing,” she said.

However, the restoration effort isn’t always a fairy tale, as hours of hard work have been put into maintaining the house.

“Our volunteers have put in over 3,000 hours of volunteer work per year. it is a community effort to maintain the property” said Lachner. “It has constantly needed upkeep.”

The house was built in the middle of the 19th century by a carpenter named Joel Partridge. In January 1871, Partridge sold the house to Porter Sheldon. Sheldon practiced law and was a United States representative of the 31st district of New York. The house remained with the Sheldon Family until Porter’s daughter passed. In her will she left the house to the Jamestown chapter DAR.

Ever since the house was left in the hands of the Jamestown DAR, the organization has been constantly caring for the house. All restoration projects have been done in respect to the era the house was built in. The Jamestown DAR continues to welcome any volunteers willing to aid the refurbishment of the house.
