West Point Grad To Create Scholarship With Run Around Chautauqua Lake

Ryan Hetrick

A quick review of Ryan Hetrick’s accomplishments and resume gives the impression of someone who is goal orientated and not afraid of hard work. His recent commitment to establish a scholarship fund at the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation is the next in a long line of goals Hetrick has no trouble “taking down.”

“I have always wanted to give back to the community that helped me succeed,” said Hetrick. “Establishing a scholarship for Maple Grove and Southwestern graduates who are pursuing STEM-related fields is a perfect fit.”

Ryan Hetrick, a graduate of Maple Grove Central School, was a 2021 graduate of West Point Academy, where he was captain of the Army Wrestling team. This summer, he will graduate from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in cybersecurity and law, with a special focus on artificial intelligence. During his time at MIT, Hetrick established Chasing Greatness Mentorship, Inc., an organization aimed at helping college athletes get the tools needed to achieve their athletic dreams.

In an effort to raise money to get the Ryan Hetrick Fund off on the right foot, Hetrick is planning to run a route of 43.7 miles around Chautauqua Lake today, May 27, beginning at the Bemus Point Boat Launch at 7 a.m. If all goes to plan, he will finish the effort at the intersection of Lakeside Drive and Main Street in Bemus Point later that day. Not only is this a big goal for Hetrick physically, he is using it as an opportunity for others to join him on the run and to consider donating themselves.

Gifts can be made through GoFundMe by searching “Chautauqua Lake Run Fundraiser” or directly to the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation at crcfonline.org/give or 418 Spring Street Jamestown NY 14701.

The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation administers over 700 endowments in support of emerging community needs, charitable organizations and local students pursuing higher education.
