Jamestown Residents Hurt In Stabbing During Non-Fred Fest

FREDONIA — Non-Fred Fest is once again in the books, but not without some damages.

According to Fredonia Police, two Jamestown residents were injured in a stabbing incident on Canadaway Street on Saturday around 8:45 p.m. Emergency crews were called to a Water Street location where the individuals were sent to Brooks-TLC Hospital for treatment. Scanner reports indicated those tied to the stabbing had driven south on Water Street.

In all, police say, thousands of students converged on the downtown area of the village, as students of college rental housing “again hosted overgrown and unmanageable house parties,” the press release noted.

Between Friday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 7 a.m., the department handled more than 300 calls for service in addition to calls and needs of the full time village residents.

During that 40-hour period, 30 arrests were made by the Fredonia Police, to include two driving while intoxicated, one harassment, seven underage possession of alcohol, 14 open container, five disorderly conduct and one sewer ordinance.

Fredonia Police were assisted by members of the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Dunkirk Police Department, the New York State Police and the University Police of Fredonia, throughout the event. In addition, police said, Fredonia Fire Department and Rescue were also strained throughout the event, requiring double staffing to handle EMS/transports, while remaining available for fire response. Between Friday and Sunday, the department responded to 31 EMS rescue calls for service.

Starting at $3.50/week.
