Clymer Town Board members this month discussed ideas for new additions for Clymer Town Park. Ideas focused on benches and a new municipal building.

The benches were brought to the board by resident Caleb Costner, who is working on his Eagle Scout project. For the project, he will be building the benches around Clymer pond, and he brought design ideas and numbers to the board. The benches will be in-ground to avoid theft or them being moved.

It was decided that three or four will be built, with some going around the fire pit and one facing the pond.

Other suggestions included having bench upkeep be suggested to school clubs for volunteer hours

“There’s kids always looking for volunteer projects,” council member Melissa Murphy said. “So that’s something maybe you could look into, to give an opportunity to like FFA and FBLA and NHS. They all need volunteer hours, so if we made that information available, at least by word of mouth, maybe that would get to them.”

Another suggestion was to make an actual rock fire pit for the benches to go around. At the moment, the fire pit is an area where people burn their items. The goal is to have the benches in by Aug. 15.

The Municipal Building project has been in the works for over a year. The board has received preliminary drawings of what the new building could look like. The new building is set to be located at the town park.

The building will be home to the fire department, highway department, town offices, a community room, bathrooms, kitchens, a town board meeting room and storage.

The town has been working with architect Chris Cooke.

“He’s got a lot of big ideas,” Town Supervisor Brian Willink said. “It’s just a matter of how much we want to spend and what’s able to be spent from the town budget.”

The next step is to have a professional estimator come in and look at the drawings and figure out what the cost will be.
