Southwestern Junior Named Miss Busti

Reese Beaver was chosen as Miss Busti to represent the Busti Fire Department, Busti Fire Auxiliary and Busti Bicentennial Committee recently at the Busti Fire Hall. Reese is a junior at Southwestern High School. Runners up were Lauren Cotter and Madilynn McIntyre. Miss Busti and her Court will represent the town at some of the various events to celebrate the 200th birthday of the Town of Busti. Each contestant was asked to write an essay about what being the queen of the Busti Bicentennial would mean to her. The judges also asked each girl two questions to help make their decisions. Beaver will receive a $1,000 scholarship donated by Cummins Engine and Cotter and McIntyre will received a $500 scholarship each donated by the Busti Hamlet Group. Participants were also each awarded flowers from Pea Pod and Juniper and a box of candy from Peterson’s Candy Store. Judges for the event were Cindy Scarborough, Jason Higbee and Dawn Stuart. The event was planned and hosted by the Busti Fire Department Auxiliary. The Auxiliary also presented an tiara and sash to Mrs. Busti 2023, Joyce Dahlgren, who is a 61 year active member of the organization. Joyce was also one of the planners of the original queen contest held in Busti. Submitted photo
