Mayor Eddie Sundquist provided a brief recap for the City Council and the community during Monday’s work session of Saturday’s successful “Turn the River Green” event.

“I want to just thank all the folks that were involved in ‘Turning the River Green’ over the weekend,” he said. “We had a tremendous amount of people that showed up and thank you for the council members that were able to make it.”

Sundquist said it was great to see the city have a lot of vendors at the event and a lot of children from the community to enjoy the St. Patrick’s Day festivities. While Sundquist said the city was “off a little bit” regarding the timing or turning the Chadakoin River green, the city was still able to “make it happen” and the event was still successful.

Sundquist thanked the Board of Public Utilities, the Parks Department, City Council members, the vendors at the event and Pat Smeraldo, who helped plan various activities for the event.

In addition to the ceremony of turning the Chadakoin River green, vendors and activities for community members to enjoy at the event, Sundquist said there was a city-wide scavenger hunt as part of the event this year. He added that a “good number” of people participated in the scavenger hunt downtown.

“Thank you all for that,” he said. “Glad to see you’re all a little bit Irish.”
