New Look: Lakewood To Redesign Village Website
LAKEWOOD — The village of Lakewood is getting a facelift — of sorts.
The board of trustees last week hired Jamestown Internet Marketing, 1671 Hoag Road, Ashville to redesign the village’s website.
“It’s no secret that our (current) website is lacking. We need to do more to be interactive with the community, so we all agree already that we definitely need a new website,” trustee Ben Troche said.
Jason Deering, who owns the company is excited to start work for the village. “I live in the area. I love to help. I look forward to working with them (the board of trustees),” Deering said.
Troche said that a whole new website will be designed, and some information on the current website will be put it on the new website. The board wants to have more transparency, and the new website, Troche noted, would have the capability to stream live meetings, if the board chose to. The new website also will be ADA (Americans With Disabilities Act) Compliant.
Deering said in his communication to the board that website will take between 40 and 50 hours to develop and implement which would cost $5,000, and in case of contigencies, not to exceed $6,250. The webiste will include 50 pages along with gated portal areas for five departments built with WordPress. Included in the site design is the backup of the old website, delete old website files, and verify the server is setup up for speed and security. WordPress and plugins will be installed that will be needed for the website as well as building a new site theme and structure. Content will be imported from the old website to the new website, and customize all pages that need improvement. The company also will develop police and fire department portals, set up Google Analytics, Google Webmaster, and Bing Webmaster tools, and submit the sitemap to major search engines. Deering told the board client training can be done via Zoom and/or video.
Aside from designing websites, Deering just completed his sixth year as the boys varsity at Southwestern Central School. Deering also was named the 2022 Post-Journal/OBSERVER Boys Soccer Coach of the Year.
“I’m excited to do the work,” Deering said.
In other business the board approved the village treasurer Apryl Troutman to create a bank account for the Farmers’ Market Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP). According to Julie Toennis, deputy clerk, New York state would provide the village with a card reader, and a cellphone. A person who has on SNAP would be able to purchase $1 tokens to be used at the market. The tokens only can be used at the market and can be used week to week.
“We would open a bank account soley for the purpose of the SNAP benefit,” Toennis said. She went on to say that vendors would be paid from that account.
In 2022 the market was open Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“The Village of Lakewood was extremely happy that the Farmers’ Market returned to Lakewood for the 2022 season. Many residents and visitors shopped at the market this summer on Thursdays and expressed that they are hoping the market will be a mainstay every summer going forward. We thank each vendor, all those that shopped the market, and the Village Clerk’s Office for coordinating the event. We look forward to the future markets in the years to come,” Lakewood Mayor Randy Holcomb said previously.
For the market, a portion of Chautauqua Avenue is cordoned off between Summit and Terrace avenues. The market began in June and ended Sept. 9. For more information contact 716-763-8557.
