Dozens of talented students of Southwestern Central School District have been rehearsing for months to present “Seussical” the musical to the community. More than 100 students are performing on stage, in the pit and backstage with the tech and prop crews. The cast includes some of author Dr. Seuss’ most popular characters including Horton and the Cat in The Hat.

Trojans from universal pre-kindergarten through 12th grade will take center stage Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. to present a family friendly production appropriate for all ages in the district auditorium at Southwestern High, 600 Hunt Road, Jamestown.

“They have been working diligently to be the very best they can be,” said director Christine Beichner-Miller of the all-ages cast, many of which are performing on stage for the very first time. “We also have some special guest stars and surprises up our sleeves.”

The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant. Songs include “Here on Who,” “Amayzing Gertrude,” “How to Raise a Child,” and “Alone in the Universe.”

General admission tickets cost $8 and may be purchased in advance online: https://search.seatyourself.biz/webstore/accounts/swcs/buy-tix.
