10th Annual ‘Light Up Clymer’ Brightens Up The Holiday

The 10th annual “Light Up Clymer” has begun and will continue throughout the month of December.

Light Up Clymer features a display of Christmas lights around Clymer and French Creek. Participating houses were asked to sign up before Nov. 27 and display their lights until the end of December.

Brittany Gerould, general manager for the Dutch Village restaurant in Clymer, has been in charge of setting up the event for the last five years.

“Barry Neckers had the idea at first, then Deb White and Rosina Wade ran it for five years, and five years ago I took over so it is my fifth year running it,” Gerould said. “I am in charge of updating registration forms and flyers, sending out participation and thank you letters, getting the word out via social media, and then organizing all of the addresses of participants on the map.”

In previous years, the Christmas light displays have been part of a competition; this year it was decided to not make Light Up Clymer a contest.

“We just wanted a map for people to go around and see some nice Christmas lights,” Gerould said. “We decided to keep it lower maintenance this year. We felt like people had enough going on.

“It’s a wonderful tradition and we thought we would see how people liked it this way instead.”

Every year the registration forms are available at Dutch Village and on its Facebook, along with the Clymer Business Association’s Facebook page in November. For those still interested in participating in Light Up Clymer, maps are also available in all three places. Both physical and digital copies are available.

Gerould encouraged everyone to come out and see the displays this year throughout the month of December, and to join the town of Clymer in the Christmas season.

“We have some really beautiful displays to see,” she said. “One house even has a light show to music with their theme being ‘Santa’ this year. It is a great way to spend a dark December evening.”
