Clymer Central Looks To Update Programs

CLYMER — Clymer Central School has recently made changes or looked into making changes into two of its programs.

Recently, Clymer’s pre-kindergarten program has been converted into a full-day program, with good results. Sports-wise, Clymer staff has also been looking into the creation of a few new merged sports teams — specifically wrestling, golf and flag football.

Superintendent Beth Olson said that converting the pre-kindergarten program to a full day has been discussed for a while.

“Clymer has had several conversations since I started on whether we should transition to a full-day program,” Olson said. “Previous reviews determined we did not have enough interested students to have a positive financial impact. However, through community surveys, we determined that projected enrollment for 2022-2023 would allow us to access expansion grant funds allowing us to assume any additional costs.”

Olson said that so far the conversion has been a success.

“Mrs. Goree and Mrs. Paddleford have done a wonderful job introducing our youngest students to our school system,” Olson said. “It has been amazing to see how quickly our students have responded to the routine and practices of the school day. They have grown so much already.”

In the sports world, Olson said there has been a discussion about a merged wrestling program, which has some difficulties.

“We are having regular conversations with our neighbors re-evaluating our merged and non-merged sports teams to determine if any changes need to be made,” Olson said. “We do have several students participating in wrestling with Chautauqua Lake, but even if we were to partner up as CSP, we do not have enough athletes to start our own team.”

A new merged sports team that will be coming next year though, is a golf team.

“CSP will be creating our own golf team for the 2023-2024 school year,” Olson said. “Clymer has not had a golf program, but through discussion with Panama and Sherman, we did determine that was an opportunity we could do as CSP. We are also in discussion over the possibility of a girl’s flag football intramural in the spring.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
