Gerace Appointed Executive Director Of Housing Authority

Joseph Gerace

The Jamestown Housing Authority announced the appointment of Joseph Gerace as its new executive director.

The Housing Authority said Gerace comes with years of experience and “exceptional leadership,” having served as Chautauqua County sheriff for 24 years.

“He is committed to safety, initiating programs that serve the public, and demonstrates strong administrative leadership,” JHA said in a news release.

Gerace began serving as executive director in June.

“He brings significant oversight and direction to the housing authority, including updating policies, attention to health and safety, communicating and connecting with residents, overseeing staff, and addressing maintenance and facility concerns,” the organization said.

JHA oversees the historic Jamestown Hotel, Senior High Rise on Fifth Street and the Chadakoin Building on Third and Washington, totaling 280 units of HUD subsidized public housing that serves seniors and those with disabilities.

In addition, JHA manages a rental assistance program that includes nearly 300 housing vouchers for individuals and families who qualify. JHA is overseen by a board of commissioners appointed by the mayor.

“We are very excited about the new leadership and direction of JHA, and we anticipate great things for the city and residents of Jamestown Housing Authority,” Sharon Hamilton, board chair, said.

Starting at $3.50/week.
