High Speed Chase Leads To Drug Charges

Four area residents face charges after a high-speed chase through Jamestown, Ellicott and into Frewsburg on Tuesday.

According to a police report, at 11:58 a.m. Tuesday, members of the Jamestown Police Department’s First Platoon tried to pull a vehicle over near Allen and Willard streets after a known wanted parolee, Samuel Pointer, was reportedly seen driving the vehicle. Pointer sped away and led officers on a high-speed vehicle pursuit that extended out of Jamestown, through the town of Ellicott and into Frewsburg. The pursuit ended on Falconer-Frewsburg Road in Frewsburg where Pointer and Dakota J. Trippe, a woman riding in the car were taken into custody. There was also a child younger than 1 year of age in the back seat of the vehicle who was not injured. After the pursuit, members of the Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force executed a search warrant on Pointer’s residence. Police report Russell G. Bartlett and Don S. Lawson were located inside of the residence. A search of the residence yielded 11.2 grams of heroin, 1.6 grams of crack cocaine, 8.4 grams of fentanyl, 29.6 grams of methamphetamine and two handguns.

In addition to being wanted by New York State Parole, Pointer is charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia, two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, aggravated family offense, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, failure to comply with a lawful order and speeding.

Lawson is charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia.

Trippe and Bartlett are both charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The Jamestown Police Department was assisted by the Ellicott Police Department, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Police, and Chautauqua County Emergency Medical Services.
