Aladdin Comes To Life At Ripley Central School

RIPLEY — It wasn’t just another Arabian Night at Ripley Central School as students performed Aladdin Kids recently.
A large audience filled the gymnasium to see the live, in-person performance of the musical adventure based on Disney’s animated film, Aladdin. Producers for the local show were Karen Kondrick, Victoria Mazurkiewicz and Erika Meredith.
The cast included Reuben Sabella as Iago, Mason Szymanowski as Jafar, Sophia Simpson as the Genie, Addison Chess as the Lamp Vendor, Emma Morin as Jasmine, Heaven Calvey as Aladdin, Nelly Baker as the Sultan, Jonathan Ribbing as both Prince Abdullah and Avis, Maddox Guenther, playing the role of both Prince Hassim and the Cave Guardian, Bentley Ramos as Prince Malik, Evonna Sabella as the Bread Vendor and Javon Sabella as the Fruit Vendor.
A distinguishing feature of Aladdin Kids are the Djinn, a group of magicians who execute the magical moments that take place during the show. Evonna Sabella, Helena Xhaxho and Sophia Peralta portaryed the Djinn, while the Agrabahns were played by Ruthie Joos, Skylar Haag, Helena Xhaxho, Evonna Sabella, Sophia Peralta and Lilianna Dunlap.
The cast also included guards, played by Adriannah Cettell, Ruthie Roos and Skylar Haag; skeletons, played by Addison Chess, Ruthie Roos and Skylar Haag, and a beggar, played by Bentley Ramos.

While Aladdin Kids was the first performance for many of the students, some cast members previously performed in The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan when the shows were staged at Ripley Central School.
Mazurkiewicz, the music director for the play, led students through an Academy Award-winning score by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. The cast performed such favorites as “Arabian Nights,” “A Whole New World,” and “Friend Like Me.”
