A 24-year-old city man was charged after reportedly failing to stop for police before striking a stop sign.

Joshua M. Verrett was taken into custody Wednesday around 9:40 a.m.

In a news release, the Jamestown Police Department said an officer attempted to stop a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt that was displaying switched license plates.

The driver, later identified as Verrett, reportedly failed to stop for the officer and “continued through several south side streets before coming to an end at Colfax and Newland Avenue where Verrett’s vehicle drove over a stop sign,” JPD said.

Verrett is facing a charge of unlawfully fleeing police in a motor vehicle as well as multiple traffic charges. He was arraigned in Jamestown City Court and later released.
