Busy Weekend Ahead For Cassadaga

CASSADAGA — There was some confusion in the village about whether there was going to be a Memorial Day parade, though that issue was cleared up on Wednesday night: the parade will in fact be on.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m., and will feature a speech from Cassadaga village Historian John Sipos at the cemetery, who is also serving as the head marshal. Sipos said they will be going to 11 different cemeteries with the Legion and Honor Guard before the parade starts. Sipos said his speech will focus on the history of Memorial Day, and won’t be very long.

“The temperature is going to be in the 80s,” said Sipos. “And I was a seventh-grade teacher. I know that if you go longer than 12 minutes, you lose the kids.”

This Sunday is also the Cassadaga Lakes running festival, hosted by Trustee Mark Wilson of Wilson Endurance Sports. Participants can be competing in a one-mile event, a 5K, a 10K, a half marathon, and a marathon. Wilson said residents in the area of the event have received notice that the event is coming, and fire police will watch the main routes.

Sipos also said that next year, the Cassadaga Library will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of their new building, and were thinking about having a celebration on May 27 next year. Sipos said they were considering getting a food truck and kids activities. Wilson said the Cassadaga Running Festival will also likely be held on that day next year, as there will be no Fireman’s Beer Mile next year.
