SILVER CREEK — The long-awaited restoration of Hideaway Bay has not yet begun, but it may be in the near future. Silver Creek Mayor Jeff Hornburg described the situation with Hideaway Bay as a “process,” but said things appear to be moving in the right direction.

“The formal plans have been submitted to the code officer,” Hornburg said. “Paperwork was filed for building permits and I think that it’s progressing.”

While Hornburg didn’t have an official start date, he said that from discussions he’s had, they should be in the process of “crossing t’s and dotting i’s.”

“I’m excited it’s moving forward and my take away in my discussions is that this is positive and that this will continue,” he said.

This past December, the Silver Creek Village Board received a long-awaited grant of $450,000 to assist with the reconstruction, via the Community Development Block Grant. Carol Rasmussen, the Business Development Manager of the Chautauqua County Industrial Development Company, added that this project, done by Adventure Sports Development, LLC, will help bring jobs to the area.

“Adventure Sports Development, LLC is expected to create 30 full time equivalent jobs,” Rasmussen said. “A majority of which will be made available to low- and moderate-income individuals.”

The Hideaway Bay Beach reconstruction will also open up some beach area for the public to use, which Hornburg said is a welcome sight. Hornburg said Kevin Cullen from Adventure Sports Development is showing a lot of generosity to the Village and the public.

“It’s going to open a little bit of the beach area for the general public to use,” Hornburg said. “We have very little public beach in the village and Kevin has graciously said he’d let the public utilize the facility. And there’s the business aspect of it, it brings more commerce into the village and hopefully we’ll draw more of a crowd.”

Mark Geise, deputy county executive for economic cevelopment, noted the project in a news release on county tourism Wednesday. He indicated the County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency is actively working to support several tourism-related business development projects, including the Hideaway Bay Resort in Silver Creek and the White Inn in Fredonia, among others.

“Even though we’re back on track, the sky is the limit in terms of further capitalizing on our incredible four-season tourism offerings,” said Geise.

Starting at $3.50/week.
