Library Hosting ‘Sweetest Pets Valentine’s Day’ Contest

The Alexander Findley Community Library in Findley Lake is holding a Sweetest Pets Valentine’s Day contest. All entries will be placed together for a random drawing. Submitted photo

FINDLEY LAKE — Pet owners who think they have the sweetest companion that ever lived now have the chance to show everyone.

The Alexander Findley Community Library in Findley Lake is holding a Sweetest Pets Valentine’s Day contest. All anyone needs to do is submit a photo of their beloved pet and wait for Feb. 14.

“I think a lot of people have winter blues this time of year,” said Michelle Varner, library deputy manager. “Something sweet and heartwarming this time of year is nice.”

People who wish to enter their pet can bring a photo in person to the library, located in the Community Center at 2883 North Road in Findley Lake. Those who cannot bring a photo to the library have the option to submit a photo online using the library’s Facebook page where there is a thread to post a picture.

“There are really no rules, besides one picture per person,” Varner said.

Pictures that are submitted online will be printed and all entries will be put on display in the boat in the children’s section of the library.

“Everyone can come in to see the array of sweet pets,” Varner said.

There is no need to worry about biased judges either. On Feb. 14 at 1 p.m., all of the entries will be placed together and there will be a random drawing for the winner, Varner said.

“Sometimes our animal friends get forgotten on this holiday,” she said. “But this year we want to see your furry, smelly, scaly and/or slimy pet Valentines.”

The prize will be in the classic Valentine tradition.

“Probably candy and maybe pet treats,” Varner said.

The real prize is the joy that seeing all these pets can bring, Varner said. “Cute pet pictures make me happy, so I hope they make other people happy, too,” she said.
