Cirque Mechanics To Perform Friday At Reg Lenna

‘Nostalgic Tale’

The Reg Lenna Center for The Arts is welcoming Cirque Mechanics to perform Birdhouse Factory at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The acrobatic troupe has been presented twice previously by The Reg with Pedal Punk in 2016 and 42FT in 2019.

This nostalgic tale, set in a 1930s widget factory, is transformed by the resourcefulness and creativity of the American worker in a story of laughter, love, flight and birdhouses. The performance includes a contortionist performing on a turntable powered by unicyclists, a trapeze artist flying high thanks to the spins of an acrobat inside a giant gear-like wheel, and trampoline wall artists defying the laws of physics.

Birdhouse Factory was inspired, in part, by the industry murals of Mexican- born artist Diego Rivera, the illustrations of cartoonist Rube Goldberg and the slap-stick humor of Charlie Chaplin’s film Modern Times.

Cirque Mechanics, inspired by modern circus, finds its roots in the mechanical and its heart in the stories of American industrial ingenuity. The shows, imbedded in realism, display a raw quality rarely found in modern circus. The troupe’s signature style is wrapped in acrobatic, mechanical marvels and a bit of clowning around. Birdhouse Factory is sponsored by Southern Tier Brewing Company, Southern Tier Distilling Company and Clarion Pointe Choice Hotels – Jamestown.
