A 34-year-old man who, while being wanted on multiple warrants, barricaded himself inside a city residence leading to a two-hour standoff has been indicted on assault charges.

Silk Spencer pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault with intent to cause physical harm during arraignment Nov. 22. The indictment was filed by a Chautauqua County grand jury Nov. 11.

Spencer had been wanted on charges that include assault from a prior stabbing incident, second-degree robbery and two counts of aggravated family offense in the spring. When officers approached a Cowden Place residence the afternoon of May 10, the city man reportedly barricaded himself inside the basement and advised that he was “going to start shooting and that he was going to kill officers,” the Jamestown Police Department said in a news release at the time.

During the standoff, dozens of residents gathered on both sides of the road and watched as police surrounded the property. Those who assisted at the scene included the New York State Police, Jamestown SWAT team, Jamestown Fire Department, Alstar EMS and the police department’s Crisis Resolution Team.

Spencer eventually surrendered to police.

In other news, 45-year-old Hashaun Leeper was indicted on charges of aggravated contempt and third-degree intimidation. The indictment was filed Nov. 10, and Leeper pleaded not guilty during arraignment Nov. 19.
