Carroll Committee To Look At ARP Funding Request
FREWSBURG — There are so far four projects or equipment purchases being looked at in the town of Carroll to receive American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds.
On Wednesday, the Carroll Town Board discussed one of the requests during its regular monthly meeting. Russell Payne, town supervisor, said Mel Feather, Myers Memorial Library Board of Directors president, has requested $53,000 in ARP funds for a deficit for a construction project at the library.
“They wanted to know if the town could chip in some funding to reduce the shortfall,” he said.
Payne said along with the library project, there has also been a funding request for a batting cage and pavilion at Willis C. Hale Memorial Town Park. This proposal is estimated to cost $31,000 for the concrete pad, covering over the top and netting, which would be used by both the little league and softball league teams.
Another proposed project is doing a “Home Town Heroes” project to honor the military with flags on telephone poles. An additional ARP funding request is to purchase a speed trailer that the Carroll Police Department can place on the side of the highway that displays the speed a vehicle is going to discourage speeders.
“We have a number of requests, and we will review those requests and make a decision on how the money will be distributed,” he said.
Payne said an ad hoc committee has been created that will review each project and make recommendations to the Carroll Town Board, who will make the final decision on how the funding will be appropriated. He said the ad hoc committee will meet Wednesday, Jan. 5, to review the projects. The public is welcome to attend.
“We welcome input from the public,” he said. “There might be other ideas forthcoming, but those are the top four ideas so far. If there are more, we will consider those requests as well.”
The town received $318,000 through the ARP, which will be allocated in two payments to the town, with one this year and the other in 2022.
