Dow Park was filled with marchers dedicated to women’s rights and the plight of the oppressed on Saturday afternoon.

A large group gathered at the park and marched through downtown Jamestown to City Hall. Chants of “People united will not be divided” and “Abortion is a human right” could be heard from the marchers as they trekked through the streets carrying signs in support of women, abortion and other causes.

Marchers then gathered outside City Hall for a rally where various speakers addressed the crowd. Representatives of the Jamestown YWCA and the Jamestown Justice Coalition were in attendance in support of the cause. City Council candidates Christina Cardinale, Ellen Ditonto and Alyssa Porter were also on hand.

Speakers included Renee Posey, Amanda Duddey Gesing, Sarah Nephew, Alyssa Anne Poter, Helen Walther, Makayla Alexis Santiago-Froebel, Danica Delois Olson, Andrea DiMaio and Sheron Pink-Grijalva. A meditation was held at both the beginning and the end of the march by Jen Gantenbein.

The rally was a part of the National Women’s March which held various marches across the nation at the same time to support reproductive rights before The Supreme Court reconvenes this week. For more information on the National Women’s March, visit www.womensmarch.com.
