SUNY Calls For Vaccines For Administration Employees

The State University of New York is mandating vaccines for all management and confidential employees at SUNY System Administration. In a notice sent out Friday, the university announced these employees must be fully vaccinated by Oct. 29. The notice explains that continued employment is contingent on this mandate being met.

The notice states “individuals are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose in a two-dose series or two weeks after single-dose vaccine.” Acceptable methods of proof include a CDC vaccination card, a photo of the CDC vaccination card or an Excelsior Pass.

Jamestown Community College reports that the new requirement does not apply to anyone employed at the college. However, College President Daniel Demarte shared that “92% of college employees have voluntarily been vaccinated.”

When asked if he thought the mandate could expand to include all SUNY employees, Demarte said he was “not sure about SUNY employees.”

“In terms of JCC, it wouldn’t affect us negatively given the amount of the college’s workforce that has already voluntarily received the vaccination,” he said.

SUNY Fredonia did not respond to a request for comment from The Post-Journal.

According to the SUNY COVID-19 Tracker for the entire college system, there are 970 estimated positive cases on a 14-day rolling basis throughout the SUNY college and university system. The dashboard reports that there have been 2,659,634 tests administered on campuses thus far, with 10,800 positive cases up to this point.

The State University of New York is reporting 425 students in quarantine, including 142 students in precautionary quarantine and 283 students in mandatory quarantine. Three hundred and three students are isolating off campus, while 77 are isolating on campus. To this date, there has been one employee hospitalization in the SUNY college and university system, and five employee fatalities.
